Photo by @daisygilardini | I am totally in love with the Svalbard reindeer. How could you not be, when it has such a cute muzzle? These reindeer are endemic to Svalbard and have adapted well to survive the harsh environment. Because they are sedentary, their energy demands are low, especially in winter, when food is scarce and they have to rely on their reserves of body fat. Their expected lifespan is around 10 years. One cause of death is starvation due to worn-out teeth from grazing on sparse vegetation mixed with gravel. Follow me @DaisyGilardini for more images and stories behind the scenes.
